Social Media

Social media websites for example like Facebook or Twitter are used for socializing and interaction for people who want to create, share or exchange their information for pictures or videos in virtual communities.  

Music artists for example like Ali Tomineek post their music videos on some of these social websites. it's good for the artist because their can be watched by a wider audience. One of the disadvantages is that the artist that posts the videos don't get payment only likes, dislikes and comments. But this is an advantage because for an unsigned artist this is a good way to get his or her music heard for free and without paying. it is good for the distributor because Facebook is a popular website and it's bad because some of the videos might not be up to date or the site might not have any videos. It is bad for the artist because it could start a bad reputation of bad and negative comments and dislikes. It's good for the audience because most of the time they use Facebook or twitter and might see some of their videos but it could be bad because they might not be interested in the song or the website.

Mainstream TV

Mainstream TV is the free channels which include BBC, ITV, CHANNEL 4 and SKY 1. Some music artist might talk about most popular music videos on one of these shows for example talk shows like the graham Norton or the ONE show. This is good for the artist because he or she might be a famous person and other famous people might want to need them. This is good for the audience because the fans in the audience might watch their music videos. This is also good for the institution because they get advertisement and it makes them money. But this could also be bad for the institution and the audience because it could be negative towards the fans in the audience and the institution could loose money. It can be bad for the artist because the song that he or she made could end up unpopular or might of not made money. This is a advantage for mainstream TV because there different genres of music might have high standards plus the music is free of charge but the disadvantage is that some of them might not have much attention as the other music genres. This is good for the distributor because they hear about this and text people about it on their streaming website for example twitter but it could be bad because some people might not have social networking or don't watch mainstream TV.  

Music Channels

Music channels are all types of television shows that only play music videos which involves all different types of genres of music for example like MTV, channel AKA, VIVA or 4 music this is good for audience because they might see their favorite music video because they all have a different genre of music which attracts a different audience. This is good for the artist because their music video could be shown on TV. Another reason why it's good for the audience is because their favourite music video is there to see and their keeping up with popular music. Plus The music video itself keeps the audience informed about it. It's good for the institution because that way their record label could be shown on TV and that way their being heard and making money. It's bad for the audience because the channels might always have adverts which always interrupts the program and gets annoying. The advantage is that it's free to watch and you don't have to download anything but the disadvantage is that they might not have the channel and if they did some music videos might be too violent to show. This could be bad for the institution because some of their videos might need censoring or the audience might not like their type of genre of music. 

Direct CD/Special Edition CD/DVD Releases

AVisually a website usually for a famous artist who releases DVDs of their life story or music videos for example like Michael Jackson this could be good for the institution and the audience because the DVD and CD would make them money. The audience might like the CD and they would be waiting for the DVD to come out so they can buy and watch it. but it could also be bad for the institution because they losing money by spending it on the production. The advantage is that the director's cut DVDs and special edition CD might have more special features that the standard DVD didn't have and the special edition CD might have more songs than the original CD but the disadvantage is that the special edition version might be more expensive than the standard version. It is bad for the audience because  they might not buy the DVD or the CD might get low ratings. Because of the low ratings it could bad for the institution because their could lose money. It's good for the artist because his of her music is being put on a CD and they will be making more money but it could be bad because people post the CD on YouTube and they just listen to it on YouTube instead off buying it.
  

Streaming websites

A streaming website is any website that the video will stream to you directly for example YouTube which is a popular website to watch music videos from. streaming websites are good for the institution because it's popular and people can discuss and comment there views on their music videos it's good advertisement because people will end up buying it. But could also be bad advertisement because people might not buy it. However this could be good for the record label because due to their rapid growth of popular music it could go on and last for a decade because of it's success. This could be bad for the artist because it could only be a matter of days before the videos that they made could be taken off a streaming website and could be gone for good. It's bad for the distributor because no one might know their streaming websites for example Facebook. The advantage is that it is free of charge and could go viral on social media. plus if you get a lot views you make money. The disadvantage is that the adverts could get annoying and some videos may be age restricted or private. This could be bad for the institution because due to the amount of work it could be too much and they might not be able to function properly.

Artist Websites

Artist Websites are official websites that are made for famous artists for example Eminem who has an artist website of his own.  

The advantage is that this can draw attention to the fans and browsers but the disadvantage is that some made website can be ether blocked or shut down it's good for the institution (shady records) and the artist (Eminem) because the music videos of the songs they make for example the song survival are on the website and the music video makes them money however this is bad for the audience because due to the explicit lyrics and violence scenes in the video people might take it seriously and people could end up in a protest against the artist. However it could be good because they might be interested in that type of music. It's bad for the artist because the website could be taken of the internet. It could be bad for the institution because due the uncensored lyrics from the videos and the protest against the artist it might make the record label look bad and might have no choice but to shut down  

Downloads (legal and illegal)

Download websites like save tube or YouTube converter are sites that you can save or download from. This is illegal because it is copyright and it's a form of protection of copied authorship from the original creator's work. This is bad for the audience because they could listen a song and realize it's from someone else's song. However this is also good for them, the artist and the record label because some people say that downloading music should not be illegal because the artists makes money off his songs and record label make money off their music, concerts and merchandise but is also bad for the record label because their also losing money because of people downloading their music and this is bad for the artist because if he or she did the same they could end up in being arrested and being sued in court. illegal download is when a song is produced and everyone in the process has there gains from their product therefore the product is protected this is copyright because they can't download it without their permission. The advantage is that you can download songs at any time and get it almost instantly without leaving the house and you don't have to by the whole CD plus you can download it with more than one devise but the disadvantage is that some CD's come with extras for example you can't always see the cover art of the CD you downloaded and sometimes can't always download the exact song you wanted.
